A role with the Design team means a big opportunity to start from scratch and create something truly original. Are you a design expert who can support your business by staying one step ahead of industry trends, new materials and techniques? Then you'll have success on our Design team that owns the design and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel to home goods, and beauty to essentials. In close partnership with our merchant and sourcing counterparts, you'll drive brand cohesion and continuity, ensuring that our products meet the merchant line plans, assortment strategies, price points and overall creative direction. As a Denim Designer, you'll be accountable for Wild Fable denim, Owned Brand Product Design and Development with direction from your design leaders to achieve overall product design strategy and merchant objectives. You will utilize your proficiency/expertise in knits product design and development to achieve the following: You'll support and drive concepts throughout the development process, research, selection of materials, washes, and the creation of silhouettes/form language. Using CAD/hand sketches, you'll translate ideas for product direction. This includes preparing professional presentation boards with illustrations, CAD artwork, fabrication, and material samples. In addition, you will support and drive product designs to maintain overall creative direction, merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and price points. Under the overall direction of Design leadership, you will work with an assigned category, brand, business, or guest segment and manage your own process and calendar. You will be expected to maintain a diligent approach to workload, which includes timely communication with internal and external partners. You'll build brand cohesion by partnering with peers across the division to ensure continuity. In collaboration with technical designers/engineers and sourcing partners, you'll also identify, troubleshoot, and resolve product issues. Responsibilities

  • Support and drive concepts throughout the development process.

  • Prepare professional presentation boards with illustrations, CAD artwork, fabrication, and material samples.
  • Support and drive product designs to maintain overall creative direction, merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and price points.
  • Work with an assigned category, brand, business, or guest segment and manage your own process and calendar.
  • Maintain timely communication with internal and external partners.
  • Build brand cohesion by partnering with peers across the division.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve product issues in collaboration with technical designers/engineers and sourcing partners.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate love for fashion, denim, wash and design.
  • Demonstrate brand relevant, elevated taste level, and awareness of women's trends and conceptual work.
  • Four-year degree in Design, Fine Art or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in Denim, Non-Denim washed product.
  • Computer design system skills including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Experience in CAD illustration or 2D/3D software.
  • Experience in wash concept, development, and wash review/comments required.
  • Knowledge of textiles, denim garment construction/fit.
  • Commercial sense, market knowledge, ability to research and apply market/trend information.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
  • Knowledge of the end-to-end product development processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in shared Design tools like Miro board, Canva or similar.
  • Experience or interest in sustainability, circular design, and eco-friendly washing.
  • Experience in size inclusive apparel.
  • Experience working in a Denim retail or product development environment.
